Handling as support, communication, and coordinated access
What the handler is responsible for
- Support the body without obscuring what the cat is communicating.
- Create predictable access and release rather than abrupt repositioning.
- Track breath, tension, orientation, movement, resistance, shutdown, and recovery.
- Communicate continuously with the lead professional.
- Change the plan when the cat’s threshold changes.
- Use the least amount of support that safely fits the task and case.
Positions are learned inside a decision system
The Cradle, Hover, Edge, Belly-Up variations, three- and four-point supports, and other named movements are not isolated tricks. Each position is taught with setup, purpose, cautions, transitions, release, common errors, team communication, and case limits.
