A structured, trauma-informed grooming service for cats who cannot safely tolerate conventional handling. This approach pairs veterinarian-directed gabapentin use (when appropriate) with somatic observation, consent-based pacing, and non-coercive technique—so care can happen awake, with dignity and minimal stress.

Who This Is For

Good fit when

  • Your cat is fearful, reactive, or easily overwhelmed during grooming.
  • Past grooming experiences involved restraint, escalation, or shutdown.
  • Medical complexity, age, or temperament makes sedation undesirable.
  • Matting, coat compression, or hygiene needs require timely intervention.

Not a fit when

  • Gabapentin is not approved by your veterinarian for your cat’s case.
  • Your cat shows signs of acute medical distress (fever, collapse, severe lethargy).
  • A veterinarian has indicated anesthesia is the safest pathway for the needed procedure.

What “Assisted” Means

“Assisted” does not mean forced. It means we use the smallest supportive inputs that allow your cat to stay present, regulated, and safe—and we stop or downshift if the body says “no.”

  • We stop or downshift at defined somatic thresholds (shutdown, rising agitation, loss of recovery).
  • If medical concern emerges, we pause and coordinate with your veterinarian.
  • If the needed work exceeds awake safety, we recommend an alternate plan (including veterinary grooming).

  • Home support plan: brushing boundaries, touch re-entry, environment adjustments.

  • Awake does not mean unmedicated. It means your cat remains conscious and behaviorally readable.
  • Consent is operational. We treat hesitation as data and adjust before escalation.
  • Progress is not the metric. Regulation is the metric. The coat is secondary to the nervous system.
  • Less is often more. Partial completion is acceptable when it preserves trust and reduces future risk.

What You’ll Need

  • Veterinary prescription: gabapentin must be prescribed for your cat by a veterinarian.

  • Transport plan: secure carrier, calm departure, and minimal pre-visit stimulation.
